The Ethereum Foundation has officially announced the return of its annual community engagement tradition on Reddit, offering developers, stakers, and enthusiasts a direct line to the core contributors driving the world’s leading smart contract platform forward.

Since January 2019, teams from the Ethereum Foundation have dedicated an afternoon or two each year to taking over the r/ethereum subreddit. The format of these sessions has remained remarkably consistent over the years, characterized by a single comprehensive thread filled with technical debates, detailed explanations, and candid answers to whatever questions community members have on their minds. Over the past several years, this initiative has firmly established itself as a cherished tradition and stands out as one of the most direct, unfiltered ways for the broader Ethereum ecosystem to hear directly from the engineers, researchers, and core developers shaping the protocol’s underlying architecture.

The next installment in this ongoing series is scheduled to take place on September 16th. During this upcoming session, researchers and developers hailing from the Ethereum Protocol cluster will log onto the platform to field questions and discuss the intricate technical roadmaps currently steering the network.

The timing of the upcoming AMA coincides with a particularly dynamic and pivotal phase for Ethereum’s core development lifecycle. Several major upgrades and research initiatives are currently moving through various stages of testing, scoping, and conceptualization. For instance, the Glamsterdam hard fork is actively making its way through public testing environments, marking another critical milestone in the network’s continuous evolution. At the same time, the broader scope surrounding the Hegotá upgrade is actively being narrowed down by development teams, while the long-term shape of the work extending beyond both of these upcoming upgrades is still being rigorously debated and settled within research circles. Consequently, community members will find no shortage of complex and forward-looking topics to dive into during the September session.

Given the breadth of current research initiatives, questions submitted for the upcoming AMA are expected to span a wide array of advanced technical subjects. Potential topics range from post-quantum Ethereum cryptography and Layer-1 zkEVM implementations to formal verification methods, the long-term future of network state management, decoupled consensus mechanisms, Layer-1 privacy enhancements, protocol specification work, client development updates, and active devnets. However, organizers have emphasized that any technical queries concerning the broader protocol remain entirely in scope for the discussion.

AMA Details

In a departure from a pure live-stream format, and much like in previous editions of the event, the organizing teams are proactively gathering questions in advance. This preparatory phase is specifically designed to allow the core developers and researchers enough time to review inquiries, coordinate across various client and research teams, and prepare comprehensive, thoughtful answers that can adequately address the depth of the technical subjects involved.

Community members interested in participating are encouraged to submit their questions ahead of time through the official submission portal provided by the Ethereum Foundation. The foundation has set up a dedicated question collection form, accessible online, where participants can log what they want to know about the protocol’s trajectory.

As the Ethereum Foundation prepares to open the floor on September 16th, both developers and community members look forward to another lively, highly technical, and insightful discussion that bridges the gap between those researching the protocol and the wider ecosystem utilizing it.
