Ledger Integrates On-Chain Lending Feature Enabling Users to Borrow Stablecoins Against Bitcoin Without Relinquishing Custody

Crypto hardware wallet manufacturer Ledger has announced the rollout of a brand-new feature designed to allow digital asset holders to borrow stablecoins against their Bitcoin holdings without ever having to give up custody of their assets. The newly introduced Crypto Loan feature grants Ledger Wallet users the ability to deposit wrapped Bitcoin as collateral and subsequently borrow dollar-pegged stablecoins, specifically USD Coin (USDC) or Tether (USDT), directly from within the native application interface.

The service is powered by the decentralized on-chain lending network Morpho and is seamlessly integrated into the application environment through Yield.xyz. Under this new mechanism, users retain the flexibility to post either cbBTC or wBTC as collateral while maintaining their underlying Bitcoin exposure for the entire duration of the loan, eliminating the traditional necessity of selling their long-term holdings to secure immediate liquidity.

In its official release notes detailing the October 2026 update, Ledger emphasized the self-custodial and transparent nature of the infrastructure powering the new feature. The company explained that Morpho operates as an on-chain credit network where automated smart contracts govern every single interaction, ensuring that user collateral remains secure on-chain rather than sitting vulnerable on a centralized third-party balance sheet.

Security and transparency remain central to how the feature has been engineered. Every single step of the loan lifecycle—ranging from the initial transaction approval to final repayment and collateral withdrawal—must be explicitly confirmed on the physical screen of a Ledger hardware device. The device is designed to display each smart contract function in clear, plain language so that users fully understand the parameters of the transaction they are authorizing before any funds move.

To help users manage their financial positions responsibly, the Ledger application actively tracks each active loan’s loan-to-value (LTV) ratio. The interface provides users with the continuous ability to add more collateral, repay portions of the debt, borrow additional funds, or withdraw excess assets at any given time. Furthermore, the application includes a simulation tool that allows individuals to preview and simulate a loan scenario before making any binding financial commitments on-chain.

Alongside the primary Bitcoin-backed lending functionality, Ledger is expanding its ecosystem integration by introducing direct access to Morpho’s broader lending markets and curated vaults. This supplementary integration facilitates depositing, borrowing, and earning opportunities across Ethereum and major layer-2 scaling networks, further broadening the utility available directly inside the hardware wallet interface.

As with any decentralized finance and borrowing product, Ledger noted that variable interest rates apply, and users remain exposed to potential liquidation risks if market conditions cause the value of their collateral to drop below required thresholds. Additionally, availability for the Crypto Loan service is subject to geographic restrictions and specific country availability.

In positioning the new offering, Ledger has clarified that it functions strictly as a technology provider rather than a financial advisor. The company does not offer financial advice or recommendations regarding debt management, leaving full responsibility and oversight in the hands of the individual user navigating the decentralized credit markets.
