Robinhood’s Crypto Revenue Falls 55% From Last Year, But Tops Street Forecasts

Robinhood’s third-quarter cryptocurrency trading business experienced a steep year-over-year decline, falling 55% from the same period in 2025, yet the results managed to outperform cautious Wall Street forecasts.

According to the company’s earnings report released on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, crypto transaction revenue dropped to $120 million in the third quarter. While that figure represents a sharp drop from the roughly $267 million recorded during the same period last year, it still managed to beat the consensus expectations of Wall Street analysts, who had predicted crypto revenues of around $114.1 million.

The significant contraction in digital asset activity meant that crypto accounted for a much smaller slice of Robinhood’s financial pie. In the third quarter of 2026, cryptocurrency trading represented just 8.4% of the company’s total quarterly revenue of $1.42 billion. By comparison, crypto made up roughly 21% of total revenue a year earlier, highlighting how shifts in market demand and trading behavior can quickly alter the financial makeup of retail-focused fintech platforms.

The revenue slump was a direct reflection of a broader cooling in customer trading activity across Robinhood’s ecosystem. Total crypto trading volume fell 38% year-over-year to $50 billion. This volume was split between different platforms under the corporate umbrella, with $21 billion executed directly through the primary Robinhood app—representing a 48% drop—and $29 billion handled through the recently integrated crypto exchange Bitstamp, which saw a milder volume decrease of 28%.

Broader Business Strength Offsets Crypto Slump

The sharp pullback in cryptocurrency trading revenue stood in noticeable contrast to the robust performance of Robinhood’s broader business lines during the quarter. Total company revenue actually rose 12% year-over-year to reach $1.424 billion, propelled by strong growth in traditional equities, options, and emerging prediction markets. This performance came very close to general Street estimates, which had projected total revenues of approximately $1.43 billion.

Robinhood (HOOD) earnings: Crypto revenue slumps, but tops diminished forecasts

Traditional financial instruments saw substantial increases in user engagement. Options trading generated $399 million in revenue, marking a 31% increase compared to the previous year, while equities revenue climbed 41% to reach $121 million. Meanwhile, prediction markets emerged as a massive growth driver, bringing in $173 million—more than six times the figure recorded in the same period a year earlier.

Despite the healthy top-line growth and a diversified revenue mix, profitability metrics faced some pressure. Robinhood reported a third-quarter earnings per share (EPS) of $0.51, which fell short of the consensus forecasts that had anticipated an EPS of $0.55. Following the earnings release and the mixed financial details, shares of the company (traded under the ticker HOOD on the Nasdaq) declined by about 5% in post-market trading.

Blockchain Infrastructure Gains Traction Despite Lower Trading Volumes

Even as retail crypto trading volumes and transaction revenues retreated from the heights of previous cycles, Robinhood continued to invest heavily in expanding its underlying digital asset infrastructure and blockchain ecosystem.

During the earnings presentation, company executives highlighted the performance of Robinhood Chain, the firm’s proprietary blockchain network. The network demonstrated strong early adoption, processing more than $80 billion in decentralized exchange trading volume and generating over $50 million in chain fees during its very first quarter of operating on the mainnet.

Company representatives noted that these chain fees primarily reflect network activity and transactional throughput on the blockchain itself. As such, they are distinct from Robinhood’s traditional reported crypto transaction revenue. Management did not disclose the exact portion of those chain fees that the company ultimately recognized as revenue for the quarter, but the metrics signal that Robinhood’s broader footprint in decentralized finance and blockchain infrastructure is successfully gaining commercial traction even during a cyclical downturn in retail trading volumes.
