CRM giant Salesforce has agreed to acquire Rune Technologies, a specialized startup that builds artificial intelligence software designed to help the United States military predict supply chain needs and manage logistics directly from the field. According to initial reports, the transaction is valued at $375 million in a combination of cash and stock.
The strategic acquisition highlights a broader, increasingly aggressive push by Salesforce into the defense technology sector. This expansion is anchored primarily by Missionforce, a dedicated business unit established by Salesforce to serve national security and defense agencies. Since its launch just last year, Missionforce has experienced rapid commercial expansion, boasting an 80% year-over-year business growth rate. This upward trajectory has been significantly accelerated by a major 10-year, $5.6 billion contract awarded to the company by the U.S. Army.
By bringing Rune Technologies into the corporate fold, Salesforce aims to fundamentally transform how military logistics are handled. While traditional defense software often focuses heavily on back-office administrative planning, the integration of Rune’s frontline logistics data will allow Missionforce to extend its operational capabilities directly into active battlefield environments. Rune’s technology is engineered to give military personnel real-time predictive insights into their resource, equipment, and supply requirements, minimizing friction and downtime during critical operations.

Rune Technologies has experienced a rapid ascent since its founding in 2024. Over its short operational history, the startup has successfully raised a total of $30 million from a roster of prominent venture capital firms and strategic investors. Its backers include industry heavyweights such as Andreessen Horowitz, Point72 Ventures, and IQT—the CIA-backed nonprofit venture capital firm formerly known as In-Q-Tel. The startup’s valuation saw a substantial climb last year when it closed a Series A funding round led by Human Capital, which pegged the company’s value at $127 million, according to data from PitchBook.
The acquisition of Rune Technologies is just one piece of an extraordinarily active M&A strategy deployed by Salesforce throughout the year. The cloud software and customer relationship management giant has engaged in a sweeping acquisition spree to bolster its artificial intelligence capabilities and market share across diverse verticals.
Earlier this year, Salesforce agreed to acquire Fin, an advanced AI agent platform formerly known as Intercom, for a staggering $3.6 billion. That massive deal was accompanied by the acquisition of Qualified for $1.2 billion. Furthermore, Salesforce moved to acquire Listen Labs, an AI research startup, following a dramatic turn of events in which the startup walked away from a lucrative $125 million Series C term sheet that would have valued it at $1.5 billion, a development previously reported by TechCrunch.
Despite the substantial scale of the Rune Technologies acquisition and its strategic implications for the defense tech landscape, Salesforce has thus far declined to formally comment on the transaction. As the integration of Rune’s frontline AI logistics software into the Missionforce ecosystem moves forward, the move signals a deeper convergence between enterprise-grade artificial intelligence platforms and national security infrastructure.
