US Spot Ether ETFs Suffer Record $1.08 Billion October Outflows as Bitcoin Funds Cool Down

The financial pressure gripping United States spot Ether exchange-traded funds intensified this month, with the asset class eclipsing a major milestone by shedding more than $1 billion in withdrawals during October alone. This dramatic capital flight highlights a shifting sentiment among institutional and retail investors alike, contrasting sharply with the relative resilience—though recent deceleration—observed in competing spot Bitcoin products.

According to data compiled by SoSoValue, net outflows from US spot Ether ETFs reached a staggering $1.08 billion since the beginning of October. This massive wave of redemptions was further fueled by a modest single-day addition of $26 million on Tuesday, which did little to stem the broader monthly tide. The heavy withdrawals recorded throughout October have completely wiped out the positive momentum generated in September, during which these investment vehicles managed to pull in $832 million in net inflows. Consequently, the year-to-date net inflows for US spot Ether ETFs have been severely compressed, resting at approximately $485 million.

Ether ETF outflows continue, pass $1B in October so far

The current month has officially cemented itself as the most challenging period for Ether investment products since November 2025. This title is all the more striking given that there are still eight trading sessions remaining before October draws to a close, leaving open the possibility that these figures could evolve further as market conditions fluctuate.

Market analysts point out that the steep capital outflows have occurred in tandem with a pronounced downward correction in Ether’s market valuation. Over the course of October, ETH has suffered a significant 9.7% price slide, moving from roughly $2,700 down to $2,438 at the time of publication. When viewed through a broader macroeconomic lens, the cryptocurrency has faced persistent headwinds throughout the year, logging a decline of nearly 18% across 2026, according to historical tracking data from CoinGecko.

While Ether investment products bear the brunt of October’s risk-off sentiment, the picture for spot Bitcoin ETFs presents a slightly different narrative, characterized by strong intermittent demand followed by a notable cooling off. On Tuesday, US spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded $23 million in net inflows. This modest daily accumulation followed a dramatically higher influx of $527 million on Monday, demonstrating that institutional appetite for Bitcoin can still surge dramatically under the right conditions.

Despite these bursts of capital injection, the broader monthly picture for Bitcoin funds remains subdued. US spot Bitcoin ETFs have logged approximately $67 million in net outflows overall for October. Even with these recent monthly reductions, Bitcoin’s longer-term institutional inflows remain considerably more robust than its second-largest counterpart, with net inflows for the year hovering at roughly $809 million, as reported by SoSoValue.

In terms of price action, Bitcoin has demonstrated relative stability compared to Ether, though it has still experienced downward pressure. At the time of publication, Bitcoin was changing hands at $82,954, marking a modest decrease of 2.2% since October 1 and a 5.3% decline on a year-to-date basis.

The divergence in performance between the two leading cryptocurrency ETFs underscores the distinct market dynamics currently influencing investor behavior. While Bitcoin continues to command strong foundational support and comparatively mild pullbacks, Ether products are navigating a combination of sharp capital withdrawals and heavier price depreciation. As October heads into its final stretch, market participants continue to monitor ETF flow data closely to determine whether institutional sentiment toward altcoin-based investment products will stabilize or if the current wave of redemptions will persist.
