Cryptocurrency exchange Binance has officially reopened its Bitcoin network as part of the initial phase of restoring user withdrawals, following a catastrophic cyberattack that resulted in the theft of approximately $6.3 billion in digital funds. The unprecedented security breach, which took place on Thursday, prompted the platform to immediately freeze all user withdrawals to contain the damage and prevent further illicit transfers of assets by the hackers.

In the wake of the incident, United States law enforcement and intelligence agencies stepped in to investigate the breach. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) formally blamed the sophisticated attack on North Korean operatives, highlighting the ongoing threat posed by state-sponsored cybercriminal syndicates targeting the global cryptocurrency ecosystem. The staggering scale of the theft made it one of the largest security breaches in the history of the digital asset industry, triggering widespread panic and regulatory scrutiny across international markets.

Addressing the resumption of services, Binance took to social media to provide a crucial update to its global user base. "First batch network now opened in phase one of withdrawals is $BTC bitcoin network," the company announced in an official statement published on X, formerly known as Twitter. This move marks the very first step in what is expected to be a carefully managed process to bring the exchange’s full suite of withdrawal operations back online after days of total suspension.

The announcement follows an earlier communication issued by Binance on Sunday via its official X channel, in which management outlined the strategy to roll out withdrawal services in a series of phased stages. The exchange stressed that services would not return all at once, but rather become progressively available as technical teams cleared safety protocols. Binance urged users to monitor its official X channel for real-time updates regarding the restoration of other tokens and blockchain networks.

Detailing the rationale behind the gradual restoration of services, Binance explained that it is adopting a methodical strategy to ensure absolute system integrity. "We are taking a phased approach by prioritizing tokens based on the past week data of user demand, so that each network and asset pair can be restored carefully, with stability and security checks completed before access is reopened," the company stated. This cautious approach is designed to prevent secondary vulnerabilities or technical failures while the platform recovers from the massive operational disruption caused by the hack.

To assist customers navigating the resumption of services, Binance advised users to verify the availability of their specific funds before attempting to move assets. Account holders have been instructed to check the withdrawal page for their selected asset and network, or alternatively, to visit the official Binance network status page to confirm whether a particular blockchain has been cleared for access and restored to operational status.

However, the exchange cautioned that the immediate aftermath of the partial reopening would likely be characterized by heavy network traffic and technical friction. During the phased rollout, Binance noted that users should anticipate some degree of network congestion, longer processing times, and occasional temporary delays as millions of account holders attempt to access their funds simultaneously. The exchange advised that if a withdrawal request does not go through successfully on the first attempt, users should wait briefly and try again once the network stabilizes.

The swift timeline toward reopening withdrawals has been supported by aggressive asset recovery and replenishment efforts by the exchange. Reports surfaced on Saturday indicating that Binance had successfully replenished 90 percent of the digital assets stolen during the security breach. This represented a significant improvement from the previous day, when the platform reported that 80 percent of the stolen funds had been covered. This rapid financial backing kept the exchange on track to meet its ambitious weekend target of initiating the first wave of withdrawals by Sunday.

The successful containment and rapid asset replenishment followed a frantic window of time during which the hackers attempted to launder and move billions of dollars across various blockchain networks before security firms and centralized exchanges could successfully blacklist and freeze the stolen funds. As the phased rollout continues, market participants and users alike will be watching closely to see how Binance manages the restoration of remaining assets and networks in the coming days.
