HANOI, Vietnam — In a significant development for urban mobility and digital finance in Southeast Asia, JCB International Co., Ltd. has announced a strategic partnership with Hanoi Metro One Member Limited Liability Company. The two organizations formally signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in Hanoi, laying the groundwork to introduce advanced contactless transit payment solutions across the Vietnamese capital’s growing urban railway network.

Under the terms of the newly established agreement, the implementation of JCB transit capabilities is officially scheduled to roll out in early 2027. Once operational, this collaborative initiative will enable JCB cardholders to utilize their existing contactless JCB payment cards, smartphones, or other compatible wearable devices to tap directly at the turnstiles and fare gates across Hanoi’s metro lines. The system is designed to replace traditional ticketing hurdles with a fast, modern, and completely seamless travel experience for daily commuters and international visitors alike.

The upcoming integration of JCB’s payment technology into Hanoi’s public transit infrastructure represents a crucial milestone in the company’s broader strategic efforts to expand its contactless digital payment footprint across global public transportation sectors. Furthermore, the initiative actively supports the Vietnamese government’s ongoing national initiatives to accelerate the adoption of a cashless economy, reduce friction in urban travel, and modernize public utility infrastructure in major metropolitan areas.

For international travelers navigating the bustling streets of Vietnam’s capital, the new service is expected to deliver an unprecedented level of convenience. Tourists and business travelers hailing from key regional markets where JCB holds a strong presence—such as Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, and various other international destinations—will soon be able to board the capital’s metro system using a familiar payment method they already carry in their wallets. By eliminating the necessity to stand in lines to purchase single-journey paper tickets, calculate specific zone fares in local currency, or carry exact amounts of physical cash for transit use, the partnership aims to make navigating Hanoi’s public transit network as intuitive as possible for foreign guests.

Takumi Takahashi, Executive Vice President of JCB International Co., Ltd., expressed enthusiasm regarding the partnership and its potential impact on the region’s infrastructure and payment landscape. Commenting on the agreement during the signing ceremony, Takahashi stated that JCB International is delighted to collaborate closely with Hanoi Metro to bring the convenience of JCB transit capabilities to the city. He added that the organization sincerely hopes this upcoming service will provide superior convenience to individual cardholders while actively contributing to the broader development of a modern, efficient, and fully cashless public transportation ecosystem throughout Vietnam.

Following the formalization of the MOU, technical and operational teams from JCB International and Hanoi Metro will engage in intensive collaborative preparations. Both entities are committed to working closely together to finalize the necessary system integrations, hardware upgrades, and backend processing alignments required to support open-loop contactless payments at metro stations. With preparations now officially underway, the targeted launch of JCB transit in Hanoi remains firmly on track for early 2027.
