Institutional Real-World Assets and Lighter TGE Take Center Stage as Crypto Market Mindshare Rotates

As the cryptocurrency market steps into a new year, a notable rotation in mindshare is reshaping the digital asset landscape. Sector preferences have begun to shift away from artificial intelligence, modular architectures, and memecoins, with capital instead flowing heavily into prediction markets, stablecoins, and real-world assets. Amid this macro transition, several protocols sitting at the intersection of these leading narratives have begun quietly posting impressive metrics. Among them, the Canton Network has emerged as a standout performer, capturing institutional interest through high-volume financial infrastructure and robust economic activity.

Designed specifically for financial institutions, Canton is a purpose-built blockchain engineered to enable secure, interoperable, and privacy-preserving transactions. The network’s native token became fully transferable on November 10, and following an initial market drawdown exceeding 50%, the asset has staged a complete recovery. Over the past month, the token has climbed nearly 48%, reflecting growing confidence in the network’s long-term utility and commercial traction.

The scale of real-world asset activity already passing through the network is substantial. Data from the final quarter of 2025 indicates that Canton has successfully processed $6 trillion in real-world assets, while currently handling approximately $350 billion per day in US Treasury activity. This heavy utilization is driven in large part by prominent institutional partners, including Broadridge Financial Solutions, a global fintech leader specializing in trading and settlement infrastructure. Broadridge operates its Distributed Ledger Repo platform on top of Canton, utilizing blockchain rails to process more than $8 trillion per month in repo transactions and introducing unprecedented efficiency into one of the largest and most critical markets in global finance.

Institutional integration efforts have continued to expand through high-profile collaborations. A strategic partnership with Nasdaq connects the Canton Network to Nasdaq Calypso, enabling automated margin and collateral management. This integration allows traditional financial institutions to move and reuse capital much more efficiently across both traditional and digital asset classes.

Furthermore, the Depository Trust and Clearing Corporation, which serves as the central clearing and settlement backbone for US financial markets, recently selected Canton to support RWA tokenization. Under the initial rollout plan, once regulatory approval is secured from the Securities and Exchange Commission, a subset of US Treasury securities held at the DTCC depository will be issued directly on the Canton Network. Given that the DTCC clears roughly $10 trillion in securities transactions every single day, shifting settlement timeframes from the traditional T+2 cycle to near real-time execution has the potential to dramatically improve capital efficiency and free up vast amounts of liquidity within existing market infrastructure.

The underlying network usage of Canton is deeply integrated with its tokenomics. Transactions across different institutions are coordinated through the network’s Global Synchronizer, with predictable fees paid using the native token, which are subsequently burned as network activity scales upward. Over a recent twenty-day observation window, the network burned a median of 6.71 million tokens daily, representing roughly $627,000 per day, with daily peaks reaching between $750,000 and $850,000. For comparison, major layer-1 networks like Solana averaged roughly $670,700 in economic value generated daily over a comparable seven-day period, yet Solana trades at a fully diluted valuation significantly higher than Canton.

Broader usage metrics reinforce this institutional adoption story. Since November, Canton has maintained an average of approximately 28,500 daily active users alongside 678,300 daily transactions. These figures place the institutional network on par with prominent public blockchain ecosystems such as Monad in terms of daily active users and Ton in daily transaction volume. While important architectural questions regarding validators, long-term token design, and decentralized governance remain open for discussion, the early operational signals are difficult to ignore. With deep exposure to dominant market narratives including tokenization, stablecoins, and robust privacy controls, the Canton Network is rapidly establishing itself as one of the most compelling protocols to monitor.

Lighter’s TGE

Parallel to the institutional momentum seen in tokenized assets, the decentralized finance space experienced a major token generation event as Lighter airdropped and launched its native token, LIT, concluding a timeline that market traders had actively stress-tested via predictive markets. Polymarket contracts had previously functioned as an informal TGE proxy, with implied launch odds briefly dipping to approximately 60% intraday before the token generation event officially proceeded.

The newly launched token carries a maximum supply of 1 billion tokens, with 250 million tokens circulating immediately at launch, representing a 25% day-one float. The airdrop distribution was funded through accumulated points from Seasons 1 and 2, resulting in 12.5 million points being converted into LIT, which translates to roughly 20 LIT tokens per point based on headline calculations. The initial allocation structure divides the total supply evenly, with 50% designated for the ecosystem split equally between immediate availability and future distribution, 26% allocated to the core team, and 24% reserved for early investors. The team and investor allocations are subject to a strict one-year cliff followed by a three-year linear vesting schedule. Following the official token generation event, premarket points pricing adjusted sharply, leaving points buyers down around 50% from peak valuation levels that had previously implied roughly $100 per point at the absolute top.

Beyond the mechanics of the airdrop itself, market participants have engaged in vigorous discussions surrounding token holder protection and value accrual. Lighter has positioned itself squarely against prevailing criticisms regarding token-to-equity mismatches by asserting that revenues generated from its core decentralized exchange and future product offerings can be tracked transparently on-chain in real time. The protocol plans to dynamically allocate these revenues between ongoing growth initiatives and token buybacks depending on prevailing market conditions.

Furthermore, the project claims that all economic value generated by its suite of products and services will fully accrue to LIT holders. The token is issued directly from a US C-Corp entity, which intends to operate the underlying protocol essentially "at cost." While this operational posture is directionally stronger than the traditional separate corporate labs model that often captures the bulk of profit, industry observers note that the concept of operating "at cost" remains elastic, pointing to historical precedents such as foundation employee compensation structures.

When evaluated against market comparables, Lighter commands a valuation profile remarkably similar to established sector leaders like Hyperliquid. With a fully diluted valuation of $2.7 billion and $700 million in circulating supply, Lighter maintains a circulating float of approximately 25.9%, which aligns closely with Hyperliquid’s circulating float of roughly 25.4% derived from a $24 billion fully diluted valuation and $6.1 billion circulating supply. More importantly, Lighter is currently trading at a fees multiple that falls comfortably within Hyperliquid’s range, registering at 26.6x fully diluted valuation against annualized fees and 6.9x circulating valuation against annualized fees, compared to Hyperliquid at 29.9x and 7.6x respectively. This valuation parity exists despite a substantial gap in absolute financial scale, as Lighter recorded $8.5 million in fees over a 30-day period compared to Hyperliquid’s $66.8 million, alongside an open interest of $1.45 billion for Lighter versus $7.44 billion for Hyperliquid.
